HAFLA 2009!

Tickets are now available...
Great news - tickets are now on sale for the Hafla in September!
Expect group performances, a selection of solos and duets and a guest troupe who will perform Burlesque for us!
There will be a live entertainment in a cabaret setting, a small bazaar and an Arabic disco to dance to and finish off the evening in style.
All proceeds from the tickets and from games on the night will go to The Meningitis Trust and to local charities (to be decided), so if you are involved with a local charity and would like it to be considered, please let me know.

Friends and family are welcome. Children under 14 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

It will be a bring your own drinks and food for a shared buffet event and bring plenty of spare cash for goodies on the bazaar and for extra fundraising activies.

Get your tickets early, especially if you want to perform on the night, as they look set to go soon!

Hospital Shimmy!

I just want to say a really big THANK YOU to the girls who came to shimmy with me at Kidderminster Hospital in June. As well as dancing our routines in the foyer, we also managed to promote healthy activities and had a good time teaching unsuspecting passers by how to belly dance!

Everyone had a great time and it was so good to see you girls shimmy and sparkle for a good cause. - x

RAQS BRITANNIA

RAQS in the Winter Gardens...
...what a brilliant weekend in Blackpool. My first Raqs and I didn't know quite what to expect. Let's just say it's a good job the sellers didn't accept credit card!
I had a fantastic weekend working hard at learning new styles and techniques and was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business. The Bellydance Superstars were mind blowing, as usual, and were really genuinely nice girls too!
It looks as though their new show this year is going to be well worth a date in the diary and if you ever get the chance to work with Mira Betz I can thoroughly recommend it - she had me in stitches (laughter not pain...although the workshop was hard too).
Definitely a weekend to remember x

Well done Chris!

*
The Egyptian Jewels were very proud to support Chris when she decided to spend Christmas and New Year helping out in an orphanage in Africa! It was so great to hear how rewarding the experience had been and the news that a new water tank for the orphange was bought with the proceeds raised from our class was fantastic and really is something to celebrate!
Well done Chris!

NCT Charity Workshop Sevenoaks branch January 2009

What a great group of girls and a fantastic location! My first workshop in nature reserve and I had a fantastic time. And we raised money for the NCT by dancing, eating cake and sipping wine at half time. The only drawback was trying to conquer the veil after a red wine and chocolate treats! All in all a wonderful day. Thank you Edwina!

Record Breakers!

2008 was the year the World Record was broken for the most people belly dancing at the same time. And a few of the ladies and I were in the thick of it! It was an amazing day with colourful dancing displays and costumes as well as entertainment thrown in by way of the troupe from the touring West End show 'Buddy Holly' who treated us all to live music and even helped us break the record! The atmosphere was electric and it was fantastic to see so many belly dance enthusiasts emerge from around the country. 535 people broke the former world record at the Malvern Theatres, doubling what it was previously, and with so many delights showcased and on sale it really was a day to remember.
Congratulations to all the Guiness World Record holders!
